California Mandate for Healthcare Workers

An order issued August 5, 2021 will require all healthcare workers in California to be vaccinated by September 30, 2021. Originally, the California Department of Public health offered vaccinations or mandatory testing. People can be exempt from the vaccine for religious reasons or a qualifying medical reason.

As of right now, it appears the order is geared towards healthcare workers working in healthcare facilities. The order also requires visitors of healthcare facilities to show proof of vaccination or a negative test prior to entry.

The change has come as a result of the increasing number of cases due to the new Delta variant, which has been deemed the most contagious variant yet. California is a seeing an average increase of 18.3 new cases per 100,000 people per day. More information will be released from the Department of Health in the following days.
