Enhancing Candidate Feedback: Scaled Score Reporting

The National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) has announced the launch of a new score report for candidates. The June 1, 2023 launch introduces Scaled Score reporting in order to improve feedback on examination attempts. This new reporting will provide feedback to aid each candidate’s testing preparation for future attempts.

Scaled score reporting is comprehensive of all domains tested, accurately reflecting the candidate’s overall performance. The scaled score report provides an overall score that takes into account performance across all areas of the exam.

Scaled scores are highly valuable in comparing the performance of test-takers because they offer a uniform measurement, making it easier to evaluate and contrast individual performances.

The new report displays a standardized scale, where candidates can see their score and its comparison to the passing standard. For example:

While the National Registry of EMTs recognizes the benefits of scaled scoring, they are also aware that the change to such scoring will have an impact, which is why they aim to support candidates during this transition by providing the necessary resources and communication. They will continue to provide the current domain-level feedback in conjunction with the new scaled score reports through August 31, 2023 to aid candidates by giving them more time to understand the difference and voice any questions and concerns.

After August 31, they will only be providing candidates with the scaled score. They believe that the transition to scaled scoring helps ensure that the scores reported to unsuccessful candidates accurately reflect their overall performance and provides interpretable feedback.
